Does Bradford County Offer a Down Payment Assistance Program?

Yes. Bradford County administers a State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) Purchase Assistance Program through the Bradford County Community Development Department.

The program assists eligible homebuyers with:

  • Down payment assistance
  • Closing cost assistance
  • Homebuyer education
  • Housing rehabilitation assistance for qualifying homeowners

Qualified applicants must generally:

  • Meet household income requirements.
  • Purchase a primary residence within Bradford County.
  • Complete an approved homebuyer education course.
  • Obtain pre-approval from a first mortgage lender before SHIP assistance can be approved.

Recent county documentation shows eligible buyers may receive up to $30,000 in forgivable assistance for down payment and closing costs, subject to available funding and current SHIP guidelines.

Do the Municipalities Offer Their Own DPA Programs?

Approved Lender and Realtor Information

At this time, Bradford County does not publish an approved lender list or approved Realtor list for its SHIP Purchase Assistance Program.

Instead, participating homebuyers are required to:

  • Obtain pre-approval from the mortgage lender of their choice.
  • Complete the county's required homebuyer education.
  • Work directly with the Bradford County Community Development Department during the SHIP approval process.
